How do I prepare my hair for a Dry Curly Haircut?

Let The Curls Rejoice!

We choose to celebrate curly hair in all of its splendid variety and natural beauty. Our particular ethos is to produce a style that enhances what your curl does freely and not to try and force the hair to do what it doesn’t want to do.We administer curly haircuts when the hair is dry and in its natural state. To properly cut your curls, we need you to follow some simple guidelines. Please trust in the process; The following measures will set you up for curl success.

Curly Haircut Guidelines:

  • Arrive with your hair clean, dry, and in its natural state.

    • Depending on the time of your appointment, you may want to shampoo your hair the day before to ensure that your hair is completely dry before you arrive.

    • After you shampoo and condition your hair, detangle it and let it hang loosely. Your curls should be as defined as possible.

    • Use a curl-defining product that is lightweight and water-based with little to no hold. Any heavy product may inhibit our ability to cut your hair to the best of our ability.

  • Wear your hair down.

    • Accessories such as bobby pins, head wraps, headbands, rubber bands, hats, ponytail holders, clips, and barrettes can disrupt your curl pattern. Do not manipulate your curls with these types of accessories or any irons before your appointment.

  • Prepare for defined curls.

    • If you’re currently using products with sulfates, silicones, butters, or oils, do your best to avoid them for one to two weeks before your booking. Ditching those ingredients will make your hair softer, more hydrated, and more defined, which will allow your stylist to see your curl pattern.

  • Bring pictures and inspiration with you.

    • We will thoroughly consult with you before we start cutting, and we love to see photos and images of hair that you love.

    The Fine Print

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in the need to reschedule the appointment and may incur a service charge. There are no exceptions. If you have any questions, please reach out to your hairstylist before your appointment.

NOTE: At Beauty Junkie, we do not follow any particular curly hair-cutting methods. Many of us have trained with different techniques for the way we conduct dry curly cuts. As a whole, we have developed unique methods and techniques. We fully appreciate that you may follow particular curl care and styling methods at home. While at the salon, we will caringly look after your curls in the manner we each practice. If you have strict ideas of the manner you would like your curly hair cut, according to a specific method, it may be best to seek a hairstylist with a similar ethos.
